How it Works

Juvéderm Volbella XC places a long-lasting gel into the lip tissue to create visible results.

Although the lip area is more sensitive than other areas of the face, the filler contains lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the injections.

Individuals may feel some pressure when the filler is being injected, but shouldn’t experience any pain.

The treatment is very brief. Depending upon the size of the treatment area and the amount of filler used, the actual injections may take 15 to 30 minutes.

Results

Although the filler is temporary, results are immediate and long lasting — up to one year. Over time, the filler is naturally broken down and absorbed by the body. For this reason, repeat injections are necessary to maintain visible results.

After treatment, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive exposure to sun or heat, and consumption of alcoholic beverages for 24 hours. This is to reduce the risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. Placing an ice pack over the treatment area can help reduce swelling.

Am I a candidate?

Most adults are good candidates for filler injections. However, Juvéderm Volbella XC is not recommended for individuals who have, severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis, multiple severe allergies, or a history of allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins. Individuals with a history of cold sores (oral herpes virus) may need to undergo preventive treatment to reduce the risk of break out before and after treatment.

How do I prepare for my injection?

Before arriving for your appointment, it’s important to remove all makeup. Before treatment, a skin care specialist will cleanse the patient’s skin with an antiseptic to prevent a bacteria infection.

Are there side effects?

Serious side effects are rare. Typically, mild or moderate side effects resolve within seven days or less. The most common side effects of Juvéderm Volbella XC include temporary injection site redness, pain or tenderness, itching, lumps/bumps, swelling, firmness, bruising, and discoloration.
