Dysport

Dysport Before & Afters

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxin A) is an injectable used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles. This noninvasive treatment temporarily decreases muscle movement in the treatment area to soften the appearance of glabellar lines, which are the vertical wrinkles located between the eyebrows.

Dysport is a neuromodulator, a chemical molecule capable of altering the effectiveness of nerve transmission. Other fillers classified as neuromodulators include Botox and Xeomin. Though all use a form of botulinum toxin, each is used to target a specific area of the face.

How Dysport Works

How Dysport Works

Dysport reduces the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing and limiting the movement of muscles in the treatment area. The physician injects a small amount of the filler directly into the muscle, which causes the muscles to relax and smoothes the skin, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles. It’s important to note that treatment results are temporary.

About Glabellar Lines

Dysport injections target glabellar lines, which are the vertical wrinkles located between the eyebrows.
They typically start to form during early adulthood and become more prominent with age, due to decreased elasticity.
The glabellar lines may become more noticeable when squinting, causing a person to look as though they’re frowning or angry.
Dysport is recommended for individuals with moderate to severe glabellar lines.

What to Expect

Woman receiving Dysport injections into glabellar lines
The aesthetician will begin by applying a small amount of topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort and go on to inject Dysport in five different areas around the forehead and eyebrows to minimize the appearance of the glabellar lines. Clients might feel slight pressure from the injections, but shouldn’t feel significant pain or discomfort.

The entire treatment session lasts a few minutes, but may take longer if the client is receiving dermal filler injections. Clients will receive follow-up instructions and will be free to leave immediately after the Dysport injections are complete.

Results may be visible as soon as two days after treatment and last up to four months. Because results aren’t permanent, clients will need follow-up injections a few months later.
Frequently Asked Questions
How to I prepare for my injections?
To ensure a client is a good candidate for Dysport injections, a specialist will do a thorough review of the client’s medical history. The client may also need to stop taking certain medications and supplements prior to receiving Dysport injections. These include but are not limited to allergy medications, muscle relaxers, cold medications, blood thinners, and sleep aids.
What is the recovery process like?
Clients might experience slight side effects but won’t need any recovery time. It’s important to avoid rubbing the injection site to reduce the risk of side effects and the spread of the toxin. Clients should wait at least two hours before exercising and engaging in other forms of physical activity.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are mild and may include headache, pain at the injection site, allergic reactions at injection site, sinus issues, sore throat, eyelid swelling, nausea, and upper respiratory tract infection.
