How a Laser Facial Delivers Results
A handheld device sends very narrow beams of light towards the skin, targeting molecules called chromophores, which absorb the light and convert it into heat. Treatment may reduce blood vessels, remove unwanted hair, fade sun spots, and rejuvenate the skin to address acne scars and fine lines.
A non-ablative laser bypasses the outer layer of skin and targets the underlying dermis. A non-ablative laser may also be fractional. This means the laser is divided into many small, deep columns, known as microthermal treatment zones. This allows a faster recovery time than treatment with a non-fractional laser.
The type of laser that is chosen for treatment will depend on treatment goals. A skin care specialist will speak to the client to determine the best type of laser for their cosmetic concerns.
What to Expect
Next, the skin care specialist will give the client protective goggles to wear and test the laser on a small portion of the treatment area. Some clients may need a numbing cream to minimize discomfort. The laser may feel like a rubber band snapping against the skin, but shouldn’t cause pain.
Depending on the size of the treatment area, the entire session may take up to 30 minutes.
